There are some things prospective buyers of electric vehicles need to know before they make a purchase, and perhaps the most important concerns charging. If you’re considering an electric Mercedes-Benz, this guide goes over the different types of Mercedes-Benz EV charging.

Level 1 Charging

The most basic type of charging, Level 1 involves using a regular 120-volt outlet, which is the one most of the electrical components in your home are plugged into right now. There’s good news/bad news with this type of charging. The good is that at this very minute, you have the capability to charge a vehicle. The bad, however, is that you’ll probably only get about three to five miles of driving range added per hour.

Level 2 Charging

With Level 2 charging, the power increases substantially. This type of charger utilizes a 240-volt outlet, and it typically adds 10 to 20 miles of driving range per hour. You can get Level 2 charging at your home by having a 240-volt outlet installed. And if your dryer already uses this kind of outlet, you may just need to get an adapter.

Level 3 Charging

The most powerful type of charging, Level 3 uses 400 to 900 volts. These chargers can be found at public stations, and because of their high voltage, they can add power to a battery very fast. It only usually takes about 20 minutes to have 60 to 80 miles of driving range added.
