Coolant (1).pngA puddle under your car is never a welcome sight. Don’t worry, there’s no need to panic. Our Mercedes-Benz service experts at Mercedes-Benz of Silver Spring have a few tips to help you respond to a fluid leak.

Engine Oil

One of the most common leaks is engine oil. It’s usually brown or black and near the front of your vehicle. While this could be something as simple as a loose oil filter or pan, we recommend having your vehicle inspected so you don’t risk engine damage.

Power Steering Fluid

Your power steering fluid is slick like engine oil, but not as thick in consistency. If you have a leak, you’ll likely hear it when turning. It’s important to have it addressed right away because you could lose the ability to steer your vehicle.

Brake Fluid

Brake fluid looks very similar to power steering fluid, although you’ll typically see the leak close to your wheels. For your safety, it’s imperative to have your vehicle inspected immediately if you have a leak.

Antifreeze

An antifreeze leak is typically near the front of your vehicle. It’s thinner than oil and is usually red or green. Keep a close eye on any leaks because its sweet smell (and taste) could attract pets or other animals and it’s toxic.

Transmission Fluid

If you notice a leak closer to the center of your vehicle, it could be your transmission fluid. While it looks similar to oil, its color is slightly reddish. This could be a serious issue, so make sure to have your vehicle inspected right away.
