When you bring your new Mercedes-Benz EV home after a long trip, your first instinct will be to charge it. Properly plugging your vehicle in and selecting the right charging method are two tasks you should become familiar with right away. That’s why the Mercedes-Benz of Silver Spring team has assembled this guide to home charging.
Plugging Your Vehicle In
Before you charge the vehicle, make sure you turn the motor off and unlock the car and the charging port door. Make sure that your charging cable is correctly plugged into the outlet or wall charger. Then, remove the cap from the charging port and plug the other end of the cable into the car. The lights will flash orange, then blue — indicating that the vehicle is charging. When you’re done, press the cable release to take the cable out.
Activating Level 1 Charging
Level 1 charging is the slowest EV charging standard, but also the most widely available. You can use any standard 120V outlet like those you would use to charge your phone or power regular appliances. By plugging into a wall outlet, you can expect to charge up to a few miles per hour when using this charging standard. That makes it perfect for recovering after a quick trip.
Activating Level 2 Charging
A professional Mercedes-Benz Wallbox™ installation at home lets you take advantage of Level 2 charging. This 240-volt charger is the same level of charging you’ll get at many public chargers. With this, you can charge up to 30 miles of range per hour; this makes it the perfect option for overnight charging or recharging after a long day.
