What Is This New EV Battery Program?
Mercedes-AMG® has partnered with Factorial Energy to develop a new solid-state battery via rigorous testing and innovations. The purpose is to create a battery that utilizes lighter materials and improves gravimetric energy density, which is the energy stored in a battery cell per unit of mass. The result is a lighter, more sustainable battery pack that improves range and handling.
What Does the New Battery Achieve?
The new battery system has passed lab testing and is ready for the real world. Road tests that place it in a modified Mercedes-Benz EQS Sedan revealed an expected electric range of 621 miles — which would supercharge your next adventure on the road. That’s because this new battery increases energy density over previous EV powertrains thanks to its improved design, so it should be capable of about 25% more electric range compared to other batteries of the same weight.
When Will This Battery Be Available?
This new EV battery is still undergoing tests as Mercedes-AMG® evaluates its performance, and it’s safe to say that further refinements and testing will follow. That includes seeing how it performs in other vehicles and the electric range and horsepower of which it is capable. However, the day will come when this battery is available on a Mercedes-Benz model, letting you experience more electric thrills.
