Changes Coming to Mercedes-Benz EV Lineup

Mercedes-Benz is rewriting the rules of electric luxury. The EQ sub-brand is being retired after the 2026 model year. In its place, electric powertrains are being woven directly into the nameplates you already know and love. It's a bold shift, and the 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology sits at the center of it.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC Goes All-Electric

The best-selling Mercedes-Benz nameplate in the world is getting a fully electric chapter. The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology is built on an advanced 800-volt architecture with a 94-kWh battery, dual electric motors, and standard 4MATIC® all-wheel drive in the Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4MATIC® trim. That means 483 horsepower, an approximate projected range of 400 miles on the European cycle, and DC fast charging at up to 330 kW, which is enough to add approximately 180 miles in just ten minutes. The all-new MB.OS® powers the cabin, and an available 39.1-inch MBUX® Hyperscreen™ makes every interaction feel effortless. A 4.5 cubic-foot front trunk and up to 61.4 cubic feet of rear cargo space round out the versatility. Expect it at dealerships in the second half of 2026.

A New Naming Philosophy

The Mercedes-Benz GLC follows the Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology and the 2026 Mercedes-Benz CLA with EQ Technology in adopting this integrated naming approach. Rather than maintaining a separate electric lineup, Mercedes-Benz is making electric versions part of each model family — a streamlined strategy that keeps the brand's identity intact while pushing electrification forward. Additional models, including future Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Mercedes-Benz E-Class variants, are expected to follow.
